Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
