Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club left Dublin with a commanding win that all but secures them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct passage to the last 16, especially following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Moment
This occasion provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a well-taken finish. Forward Eddie Nketiah added a another, finding the net for the second game in match.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a largely rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.
Control Asserted from the Outset
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a simple tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
